Henry L. Robinson Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Scholarship
The Henry L. Robinson Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Henry Robinson, Professor of French at Baylor University for 28 years. Each year since 1980 the Zeta of Texas chapter of Phi Beta Kappa selects "Robinson Scholars," two or three junior level students whose programs of study reflect a respect for the values of the liberal arts: humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. The designation and the accompanying scholarship recognize the achievement of the Robinson Scholars and is intended to spur them on to great things in the coming year and throughout their lives, as exemplified by the Phi Beta Kappa motto, "love of learning is the guide of life."
Dr. Robinson took a leadership role in Baylor’s application for a Phi Beta Kappa chapter, culminating in the establishment of the Zeta of Texas in 1976. Formal installation of the chapter took place April 12, 1977. In addition to Dr. Robinson, the charter members of the Zeta chapter included Karen Bell, Bruce Cresson, Wallace Daniel, Morse Hamilton, Clifford Knape, Maureen Lassen, Barbara Lauren, Robert Packard, Darden Powers, Robert Ray, and Patricia Ward.
